Here's #1: Destruction: This is the BIG sin and however one destroys thine book is how they shall be repaid if they were terrible enough to go to bibliohell. Destruction includes but is not limited to burning, bending back the cover, breaking the spine, tearing out pages, staining pages, dropping the book in water, shredding pages, and running it over with a lawn mower. - Head over to read the other six.

Feeding the Need to Read - 9/27/09

I changed the name of my weekly list of new reads. "Books Bought and Received" was a bit boring as far as titles go, so I came up with "Feeding the Need to Read". I think this title says it all.

This week was a very good week in books for me.

Must Love Hellhounds by Ilona Andrews, Meljean Brook, Charlaine Harris, Nalini Singh

I won this over at Odd Shots and it's signed by Meljean Brook!

Book Blurb from Amazon.com:
From New York Times bestselling authors Charlaine Harris and Nalini Singh and national bestselling authors Ilona Andrews and Meljean Brook, tales of man's worst friend...

In these hound-eat-hound worlds, anything goes... and everything bites.

Follow paranormal bodyguards Clovache and Batanya into Lucifer's realm, where they encounter his fearsome four-legged pets, in Charlaine Harris's The Britlingens Go to Hell. Seek out a traitor in the midst of a guild of non- lethal vampire trackers, one that intends to eradicate the entire species of bloodsuckers, in Nalini Singh's Angels' Judgment. Find out why the giant three-headed dog that guards the gates of Hades has left the underworld for the real world-and whose scent he's following-in Ilona Andrews's Magic Mourns. Embark on a perilous search for the kidnapped niece of a powerful vampire alongside her blind- and damn sexy-companion and a hellhound in Meljean Brook's Blind Spot.

These four novellas by today's hottest paranormal authors will have hellhound lovers everywhere howling.

About the Authors
Charlaine Harris writes both fantasy/mystery and mystery. The HBO series True Blood is based on her Sookie Stackhouse novels. Nalini Singh is the author of the Psy-Changeling and the Guild hunter series. Ilona Andrews is the author, most recently, of Magic Strikes. Meljean Brook is the author of the Guardian series.

Dark Time by Dakota Banks
Book 1, Mortal Path

I recieved this book from RachaelFromNJ in exchange for a review on her blog Enchanted by Books.

Book Burb from Amazon.com:
Three hundred years ago, she sold her soul to a demon. Now she wants it back.
For centuries, the woman calling herself Maliha Crayne has lived a second life—as an assassin for the malevolent creature who owns her soul. A haunted killer with the blood of countless victims on her hands, she has finally discovered a way to nullify the demonic pact that chains her: If she saves a life for every one she has taken, she will be free.
But if she fails, her punishments will be unspeakable, unendurable . . . and neverending.

Tainted ARC by Julie Kenner
Book 1, The Blood Lily Chronicles
Release Date: October 27, 2009

Recieved for review.

Book blurb from Amazon.com:
Lily Carlyle has lied, cheated, and stolen her way through life.

But in death, she'll really get to be bad...

When her little sister is brutalized, a vengeful Lily determines to exact her own justice. She succeeds at the cost of her own life, but as she lies dying, she is given a second chance. Lily can earn her way into Paradise by becoming an assassin for the forces of good.

It's the job Lily believes she can really get into-but she doesn't realize that she may not be able to get out.

Biting the Bullet by Jennifer Rardin
Book 3, Jaz Parks

I won this over at Amberkatze's Book Blog and it's signed by Jennifer Rardin!

Book Blurb from Amazon.com:
I'm Lucille Robinson (aka Jaz Parks). This is a mission unlike anything my vampire boss, Vayl, and I have ever been on. It's not our usual take-them-out-and-run; it's an undercover mission that needs the whole gang: a psychic, an interpreter, and a weapons specialist. We've never gone in which such heavy artillery before, but the more the merrier, right? Um...nope. At least not since Vayl and I learned part of our job is to ferret out a mole concealed in our unit. To add to our problems, we're being harried by a pack of reavers bent on revenge, and targeted by a Seer who wants to share Vayl's power - at any cost. This is going to be a blast.

Promo: The League: Born of Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Born of Night is the first book in the futuristic romance trilogy The League by Sherrilyn Kenyon, and will be available on September 29, 2009 from St. Martin's Press.

About The League:
Hell's New Heroes

In the Ichidian Universe no one was safe. People were dragged from their homes and killed in the streets- victims of a ruthless tyrant who was bent on being the sole ruler of their entire empire. Those who opposed him and his army formed an alliance called The League which fell under the leadership of the Quorum.

The Quorum realized that the best way to keep trouble from starting was to cut it off at its knees. So a separate group of soldiers was needed, The League Assassins. Highly trained and highly valued, they are the backbone of the government. But not even the League is immune to corruption...

Welcome to a world where corrupt assassination politics dominate everything and everyone- because sometimes the cure really is worse than the illness. It's kill or be killed. You're either the hunter or the prey.

But there are those who will protect you. Men and women who come from the streets and from bloodied backgrounds of survival. You just have to decide is they're better than the ones chasing you...

Or worse.

Sarcastic, loyal, highly trained and lethal, these men and women are the next generation of heroes. They know how to laugh in the face of madness and danger, and to endure the worst The League and their enemies can hurl at them.

Most of all, they know to fight and protect.

Welcome to the madness...

New Book: Nice Girls Don't Live Forever by Molly Harper

Molly Harper posted the cover for the third book in her Nice Girls series, Nice Girls Don't Live Forever over at The League of Reluctant Adults. I haven't read this series but it does look interesting, fun even. Have any of you read the books in this series?

Book Blurb:
Nothing sucks the romance out of world travel like a boyfriend who may or may not have broken up with you in a hotel room in Brussels. Jane Jameson’s sexy sire, Gabriel, has always been unpredictable. But the seductive, anonymous notes that await him at each stop of their international vacation, coupled with his evasive behavior over the past few months, finally push Jane onto the next flight home to Half Moon Hollow — alone, upset, and unsure whether Gabriel just ended their relationship without actually telling her.

Now the children’s-librarian-turned-vampire is reviving with plenty of Faux Type O, some TLC from her colorful friends and family, and her plans for a Brave New Jane. Step One: Get her newly-renovated occult bookstore off the ground. Step Two: Support her best friend, Zeb, and his werewolf bride as they prepare for the impending birth of their baby . . . or litter. Step Three: Figure out who’s been sending her threatening letters, and how her hostile pen pal is tied to Gabriel. Because for this nice girl, surviving a broken heart is becoming a matter of life and undeath...

Erica Hayes's Shadowfae is Going to be HAWT!

I read the free short story Hellcursed, which also includes chapter one of Shadowfae by Erica Hayes yesterday and I was blown away by it! Oh.My.Gawd!! From what I read, this new fantastical world created by Erica is going to be sensual, erotic, dark and heart-pounding exciting, that's going to blur the line between good and bad. *shivers* The good kind.

If you haven't read Hellcursed, don't take my word for it, go check it out for yourself.

Shadowfae is the debut urban fantasy novel in the Shadowfae Chronicles by Erica Hayes, that will release on October 13, 2009.

Synopsis for Hellcursed, prequel to Shadowfae, from Erica's website:
Tricked.
Cursed.
Damned.
It's 1863, and headstrong ex-convent girl Jade has renounced the church that tried to curb her independence. Now, she travels the world seeking adventure and the pleasures of forbidden ritual.

But she's tricked by a treacherous sorcerer, and now she's forced into a darker kind of slavery. She's a succubus, with a powerful demon lord her master for a thousand years.

At least, that's what he thinks. Jade accepts no man's domination, least of all a demon's. She's determined to thwart her fate.

But she's yet to discover the true meaning of demon thrall...
Synopsis for Shadowfae, from Erica's website:
Steal souls.
Live in hell.
Never die.
In a city infested with psychotic fairies and run by sadistic vampire mafiosi, life as a soul-sucking succubus rarely involves lacy lingerie, hot guys or great sex.

Enslaved by a demon lord, Jade must spend her nights seducing vampire gangsters and shapeshifting thugs. After two hundred years as a succubus, she burns for freedom and longs to escape her brutal life as a trophy girl for hell's minions.

Then, she meets Rajah, an incubus who touches her heart and intoxicates her senses. Rajah shares the same bleak fate as she, and yearns just as desperately for freedom. But the only way for Jade to break her bonds is to betray Rajah—and doom the only man she's ever loved to a lifetime in hell.

Review: Cry Sanctuary by Moira Rogers

This cover matches the story perfectly!
Cry Sanctuary by Moira Rogers
Book 1, Red Rock Pass Series
eBook
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Year: 2008
Book Blurb from Moira Rogers' website

Keith Winston is tired of fighting. The war between werewolves and wizards rages on in Europe, but he's come home to Red Rock, Montana in hopes of finding a bit of peace. Instead he finds more strife as he struggles against the pack's dictates that he resume his place as the alpha's right hand man.

When he rescues a new wolf on the run, he knows his instant attraction to her could cause trouble. What he doesn't expect is to find himself embroiled in another battle that goes against all his instincts--and his heart.

Abigail Adler learned about the existence of werewolves only when she became one. With her life threatened by a corrupt alpha, she flees to the only sanctuary she knows: Red Rock. While she's grateful for the pack's protection, she chafes under its unbreakable rules of conduct--except when it comes to submitting to the passion Keith stirs in her.

Then her tormentor kidnaps her sister in an attempt to lure her out of hiding. To save her, Abby and Keith must be willing to do the very thing that could get them all killed--break all of the rules.

Warnings: Hot werewolf sex, violence, explosions, and a heroine wielding a makeshift implement of destruction.
My Ramblings:
I won an ebook of Cry Sanctuary this past May over at Moira Rogers' blog, I didn't read it right away because I didn't have an ereader and do not like reading ebooks on the PC. Well, now that I have a Sony Reader that's all changed and I'm really enjoying the portability of my ereader. Cry Sanctuary was my first read on my ereader.

Cry Sanctuary was an exciting fast read for me, I enjoyed watching the relationship dynamics between Abigail "Abby" and Keith play out from the action packed start to the explosive ending. Abby and Keith neither tried to fight their physical attraction for the other. They both went with their instincts instead of trying to deny them. They just had self-doubts as to whether one would accept the other more on an emotional level because they were both trying to overcome issues from their past. But when the opportunity presented itself to show how they each felt, they each went with it, more like what you would see in real life, I think. This to me was refreshing.

The secondary characters were individuals you could relate to, they only added to the story without overtaking it and made me want to read more about them. I especially liked the sexy and charismatic Joe, he has a devil may care attitude that I just loved but underneath all the bluster you can tell he's a great guy by some of the decisions and advice he hands out throughout the story.

This is something I found very fascinating, in this world of werewolves, females can also be alphas. I've never read a werewolf story before that had this aspect part of their world. I absolutely loved that!

After finishing Cry Sanctuary, I went back to Moira Rogers website to get the link to purchase the next book in the series, I found a prequel to the Red Rock Pass series, Becoming which is a free download. I went ahead and read Becoming and you know what? It gave me a better understanding of Sammie and Gavin, the leader alphas at Red Rock Pass and the realities of the werewolves in this world, rounding out the storyline for me. I just wished I had read the prequel before reading Cry Sanctuary, then I wouldn't of felt like I was missing a little backstory in a couple of spots. I highly recommend reading Becoming before reading Cry Sanctuary.

Cry Sanctuary satisfied my need for the paranormal while heating up the pages with the sizzling but sweet romance of Abby and Keith. The paranormal world of magic and werewolves created by Moira Rogers was done in such a way that everything seemed believable with a strong edge of realism.  I'm so glad I finally started this series and I'll be reading the next book Sanctuary Lost.

  2. Cry Sanctuary
