New Sookie Stackhouse Book Covers

I noticed the other day, surfing Amazon.com, that the Sookie Stackhouse Series is getting revamped with new book covers and reissued. Looks like they are doing a tie-in with True Blood HBO series with these. The new covers have a Young Adult book cover feel to them. I could only find the first six in the series with new covers and I couldn't find any other information about them. So, I'm not sure if they are going to revamp all of the book covers in the series or just the first six.

Before I started reading the Sookie Stackhouse Series, I had seen these books at the book store but never bothered to pick them up because of the covers. Now, if the books had the new covers, way back when, I would've picked them up sooner. True Blood, the HBO series, brought my attention to this series, when it premiered last fall. Of course, now I'm hooked on this series, books and HBO shows, line and sinker.

As an aside, if I had been blogging before January of this year, I would've know this was a good series. Thankfully I came out of my hidy-hole and ventured onto the intrawebs after hours. Being a web developer as my profession, when I got off work, I would avoid the computer like the plague. Something changed/clicked last December, don't remember what it was. Just glad it did.

The old book covers did grow me as I read the series but I do like the new ones. What do you think about the new covers? Do you like them?

I didn't like the old covers, but the new ones, no not those either

I actually love the original covers. The new ones not so much. The covers for the True Blood tie-in books are much better.

I don't like the new covers, I thought the old ones were cute. The new ones are just weird. Blerg.

Anna - Are you saying there are some book covers older then the ones I have here? If so, I'd like to see those, too.

Blodeuedd & Wendy - I knew a lot people would have mixed feelings about the covers, just a hunch. :) The first time I'd seen the old covers, I thought they were a bit odd, but I started taking a liking to them as I'd read the books. I like the old and new book covers.

I'd be more apt to pick up the new covers vs the old.

I see you are reading The Betrayal! I really, really enjoyed that book. I hope you like it too. I love that it wasn't clear cut good vs evil, you know. Wonderful fantasy :).

No you have the original covers but... as the tv series progresses they are releasing tie in books with covers related to the show. So far Dead Until Dark and Living Dead in Dallas are available. Here are the links if you want to check out the covers:

Amy - Yeah, I'm reading The Betrayal based on your review. :)

Anna - Thanks for the links. I've seen those, I just ignored them. Why, I have no idea. LOL! Isn't it weird what we will and won't pay attention too?

I love the goofy cartoonish old covers. Guess I'm a throwback. The other covers come across as too intense and angsty. Which is probably their aim, since Stephanie Meyer's books are so popular with young adult readers. Makes sense from a marketing aspect, I guess.

Cassandra - Yep, agree with you on the YA angle. It was one of my first thoughts.

I'm an old cover lover. I think the new covers are good too, as well as the HBO tie in covers. I just liked how Charlaine Harris originally presented the stories and the cover art kind of matches Sookie Stackhouse's personality. She's unpretentious, basically a down home girl who just happens to read minds and who likes vamps for their peacefulness and strength.

Hi Dottie - I never thought of the book covers in that light before. Good line of thinking, I like it. :)

i heard that the books with the new covers have a sort of different storyline to the old ones, you know like a book version of the tv series.. is that true? or is it the original story just with a new cover?

Hi Anonymous,

My understanding is the book content is the same as the original books. The covers were changed to tie into the True Blood TV series. I did a quick search and couldn't find anything contrary to this.

Another thing .. the book coers in UK are different to the one's shown here, they're black and grey with a little bit of red, you should check them out, they're pretty cool x

I went to the Amazon.co.uk website to check out the UK covers, they are nice. Darker in the imagery, like the red lips. I bet those who collect their favorite books in the different covers, will have fun with those. Thanks for pointing them out!

I'm currently reading red headed stepchild by jaye wells after seeing it on the list of books to be read.. im enjoying it, but having a little trouble understanding some things .. like what's mage and a mancy??

thnk yoo xx

A mage is a magic user, who is born with ability to use magic. A mancy is just another name for mage. Here is a link to Jaye Wells website's about section. You'll find a lot information about Red-Headed Stepchild and the author.

This is an old post but I do NOT like the new covers. I love the original covers. They are so adorable with a lot more personality!
