Books Bought & Received plus Bite Club - 9/20/09

The Devil Inside by Jenna Black
Book 1, The Morgan Kingsley Series

I bought this at The Book Cellar, my favorite local bookstore. I've seen a lot of good reviews on the Morgan Kingsley series so I thought I'd give it a shot.

Book Burb from Jenna Black's website
POSSESSION. MURDER. MAYHEM. LET THE GAMES BEGIN…. Exorcism isn’t a job, it’s a calling—and a curse. Just ask Morgan Kingsley, a woman who has a stronger aura than any demon. Or so she thought. Now, in a pair of black leather pants and a kick-ass tattoo, Morgan is heading back to Philadelphia after a nasty little exorcism—and her life is about to be turned upside down…by the demon that’s gotten inside her. Not just any demon. Six feet five inches of dark, delicious temptation, this one is to die for—that is, if he doesn’t get Morgan killed first. Because while some humans vilify demons and others idolize them, Morgan’s demon is leading a war of succession no human has ever imagined. For a woman trying to live a life, and hold on to the almost-perfect man, being possessed by a gorgeous rebel demon will mean a wild ride of uninhibited thrills, shocking surprises, and pure, unadulterated terror…

VampChix is starting a monthly vampire book club, Bite Club. The first Bite Club meeting is October 30th and first book up for discussion is The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance 2. When I had seen this I was so syched since for once I actually have the book, I don't feel so behind what everyone else has already read because this has just been released. Now, I just need to be sure to read it before October 30th!

Okay, VampChix have set two simple rules for Bite Club:

Rule #1: Tell everyone about Bite Club.
Rule #2: Don't bleed on the carpet!

From the VampChix blog:
Here's how it works:
Each month we will feature a new vampire romance title, beginning with an author spotlight. Everyone gets a few weeks to read the book and then we meet to discuss our favorite characters, plot lines, settings, hot scenes, world building etc. etc. The blog will be open all month long for those who want to chat books, but spoilers will not be permitted until discussion day unless clearly marked. If you have a scene that jumps out and really grabs you by the neck, let's talk about it, but for those who choose to remain in the dark, spoilers can be skipped. When our club meets we can discuss any aspect of the book that appeals to us, and who knows? Maybe the author will drop in to talk too!

First bite: The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance 2
First chat: October 30th

New Book Covers for Jenna Black and Kelley Armstrong

Jenna Black tweeted the new book cover for her fifth book The Devil's Playground in her Morgan Kingsley series, releasing on February 23, 2010. I really like this new cover style for this series.

Tweet: Cover art for THE DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND. Very different. What do you think?
Book Blurb:
Morgan Kingsley, a kick-ass exorcist, can deal with Lugh, the super-sexy demon living inside her, but does he have to moan softly during her intimate moments with her mortal lover? Understandably, Brian is reluctant to share the pleasures of Morgan's flesh with a gorgeous rogue from the Demon Realm.

But personal matters will have to wait when the opportunistic owner of The Seven Deadlies demon club in Philadelphia enlists Morgan's help in heading off a crisis: It seems that demons have started showing up at the hot spot in alarming numbers and in the unwilling bodies of rough trade club-goers. Morgan is sure that Dougal, Lugh's sworn enemy, is behind this, but why? To find out Morgan must summon every ounce of power at her command—or risk becoming just another casualty in an all-out demon war.

Kelley Armstrong tweeted the new book cover for the anthology Hellbound Hearts edited by Paul Kane and Marie O'Regan, due to release on September 29, 2009. One word: Spooky!.

Tweet: Cover art for Hellbound Hearts, stories inspired by Clive Barker's Hellraiser universe.
Book Blurb:
Clive Barker's iconic masterpiece The Hellbound Heart, the novella adapted into the film Hellraiser, unleashed a new mythology of horror, brilliantly conceived and born of the darkest imagination. Now, enter this visionary world -- the merciless realm of the demonic Cenobites -- in this collection of stories inspired by The Hellbound Heart. Featured here is the graphic work "Wordsworth," from bestselling author Neil Gaiman and artist Dave McKean, who unlock an explicit way to violate innocence -- one torturous puzzle at a time.... New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong logs on to a disturbing website for gamers, where the challenge is agonizing, and the solution beyond painful. When his father disappears, an Oxford student returns to his family's mansion, where a strange mechanism in the cellar holds a curious power, in a haunting illustrated work by Christopher Golden and Mike Mignola.
