My Ramblings:
Three Days to Dead is Kelly Meding's debut urban fantasy thriller and it's a book I've been looking forward to reading ever since I laid my eyes on it's gorgeous cover. Kelly Meding has taken traditional lore on vampires, gremlins, goblins, trolls, gargoyles and added her own creative twists to their legends, making them her own. Then she's built a supernatural world around these creatures known as the Dregs, planting them right under the noses of humans. I found myself emotionally investing in the characters, who were so believable because they weren't perfect or infallible. Especially Evy Stone, who is truly a kick-ass heroine. She grew up in the school of hard knocks and it showed in her attitude and stance.
I enjoyed the atmosphere of Three Days to Dead which at times were very dark and others light hearted, this helped break up the dark edges coating the story. The plot is well thought out with plenty of twists in it to keep you guessing and reading. This is a book that isn't just for urban fantasy readers, readers of paranormal romance will also find this book a very satisfying read. I think this book is a prime example of an urban fantasy/paranormal romance hybrid.
I'm looking forward to next book in the Dreg City series, As Lie the Dead.
