Book 1, Red Rock Pass Series

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Year: 2008
Book Blurb from Moira Rogers' website

Keith Winston is tired of fighting. The war between werewolves and wizards rages on in Europe, but he's come home to Red Rock, Montana in hopes of finding a bit of peace. Instead he finds more strife as he struggles against the pack's dictates that he resume his place as the alpha's right hand man.

When he rescues a new wolf on the run, he knows his instant attraction to her could cause trouble. What he doesn't expect is to find himself embroiled in another battle that goes against all his instincts--and his heart.

Abigail Adler learned about the existence of werewolves only when she became one. With her life threatened by a corrupt alpha, she flees to the only sanctuary she knows: Red Rock. While she's grateful for the pack's protection, she chafes under its unbreakable rules of conduct--except when it comes to submitting to the passion Keith stirs in her.

Then her tormentor kidnaps her sister in an attempt to lure her out of hiding. To save her, Abby and Keith must be willing to do the very thing that could get them all killed--break all of the rules.

Warnings: Hot werewolf sex, violence, explosions, and a heroine wielding a makeshift implement of destruction.
My Ramblings:
I won an ebook of Cry Sanctuary this past May over at Moira Rogers' blog, I didn't read it right away because I didn't have an ereader and do not like reading ebooks on the PC. Well, now that I have a Sony Reader that's all changed and I'm really enjoying the portability of my ereader. Cry Sanctuary was my first read on my ereader.

Cry Sanctuary was an exciting fast read for me, I enjoyed watching the relationship dynamics between Abigail "Abby" and Keith play out from the action packed start to the explosive ending. Abby and Keith neither tried to fight their physical attraction for the other. They both went with their instincts instead of trying to deny them. They just had self-doubts as to whether one would accept the other more on an emotional level because they were both trying to overcome issues from their past. But when the opportunity presented itself to show how they each felt, they each went with it, more like what you would see in real life, I think. This to me was refreshing.

The secondary characters were individuals you could relate to, they only added to the story without overtaking it and made me want to read more about them. I especially liked the sexy and charismatic Joe, he has a devil may care attitude that I just loved but underneath all the bluster you can tell he's a great guy by some of the decisions and advice he hands out throughout the story.

This is something I found very fascinating, in this world of werewolves, females can also be alphas. I've never read a werewolf story before that had this aspect part of their world. I absolutely loved that!

After finishing Cry Sanctuary, I went back to Moira Rogers website to get the link to purchase the next book in the series, I found a prequel to the Red Rock Pass series, Becoming which is a free download. I went ahead and read Becoming and you know what? It gave me a better understanding of Sammie and Gavin, the leader alphas at Red Rock Pass and the realities of the werewolves in this world, rounding out the storyline for me. I just wished I had read the prequel before reading Cry Sanctuary, then I wouldn't of felt like I was missing a little backstory in a couple of spots. I highly recommend reading Becoming before reading Cry Sanctuary.

Cry Sanctuary satisfied my need for the paranormal while heating up the pages with the sizzling but sweet romance of Abby and Keith. The paranormal world of magic and werewolves created by Moira Rogers was done in such a way that everything seemed believable with a strong edge of realism.  I'm so glad I finally started this series and I'll be reading the next book Sanctuary Lost.

I completely agree about this book, especially that I wish I'd read Becoming first. This story made so much more sense after reading that one.

Overall I was impressed though. Moira Rogers has become a favorite new author for me.

This series sounds great - I'm a bit short on shapeshifter reads at the moment, this should do nicely!

Blodeuedd - Yep, I was the same way about reading on the pc. I'm soooo happy with my ereader.

Holly - I enjoyed the Cry Sanctuary but after I read the prequel, a lot of things just made better sense. And same here, I'm definitely going to keep up with this series and give Crux a try.

Mandi - Yes, read prequel first. It takes the story up to a whole other level.

Patti - This is a quick satisfying read. Give it a try. :)

I did e-read on the pc a couple of times, besides the wooden ass (dutch translated phrase :) it took me about 6-7 days to read a book...it isn't my thing and slows my reading down by half. I have got enough UF to try out for the moment but your review does pique my interest Donna :D Especially the warning of hot werewolf sex...

Leontine - Same here, just too uncomfortable to read at a computer for hours. Oh, this isn't a UF it's actually a Paranormal Romance. :)

Susi - Hope you decide to check out Cry Sanctuary.
